Quang Ninh is gradually developing a border tourism product called “Two Nations – One Destination”, connecting the Hoanh Mo (Vietnam) and Dongzhong (China) border gates. This initiative is proposed by Hoanh Mo Commune and is expected to be launched in 2026. It promises to offer a unique travel experience, promote socio-economic development in border areas, and enhance tourism cooperation between the two localities.

Possessing spectacular natural landscapes and distinctive cultural features of Binh Lieu, Hoanh Mo is considered to have strong potential for developing tourism allied to border trade. Since the official opening of the Hoanh Mo – Dongzhong border gates, various survey, connection, and pilot tour activities have been actively implemented. In particular, the involvement of specialists from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in assessing and providing orientation for sustainable community-based and ecological tourism development has created an important foundation for shaping this tourism product.

These tours to Hoanh Mo and surrounding areas are being organized with well-structured itineraries. From the border gate, visitors can explore the Binh Lieu market, Khe Van Waterfall, Cao Ly and Cao Ba Lanh mountains, or enjoy community-based tourism activities at Mooc River and Cao Son villages. The destinations are connected through specific routes such as “Hoanh Mo Border Gate – Binh Lieu Market – Khe Van Waterfall – Cao Ly Mountain” or “Hoanh Mo Border Gate – Cao Son Flower Garden – Cao Ly Mountain”, creating convenience and attracting a large number of visitors.

On the opposite side of the border, the Dongzhong area offers a range of remarkable experiences, including SUP activities, hot springs, and opportunities to explore local cuisine and agricultural life. The ideal combination of Vietnam’s highland culture and natural landscapes with China’s diverse resort services is expected to create a fresh and distinctive journey, contributing to enhancing the appeal of this cross-border tourism route.

Although still in the process of completing infrastructure, procedures, and tourism products, the Hoanh Mo – Dongzhong tourism route has already demonstrated clear development potential. In the future, expanding connectivity from Hoanh Mo and Binh Lieu to Quang Ninh’s major tourism centers such as Van Don, Bai Tu Long Bay, and Ha Long Bay will help extend visitors’ length of stay, increase tourist spending, and further affirm Quang Ninh’s position on the regional tourism map.
