On April 10–12, a model community-based tourism tour designed for Japanese visitors was implemented in Luc Hon, Hoanh Mo, and Binh Lieu communes. The tour aimed to provide realistic, immersive experiences, allowing experts to observe, discuss, and gradually promote the development of community-based tourism in these localities.

The delegation included experts from JNK Environment Research and Consult Co., Ltd. and OM Environment Planning Research Institute, representatives of Han River Tourism Company, the Quang Ninh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Quang Ninh Provincial Community Tourism Club, local authorities and residents, as well as several travel agencies.
During the three-day program, the delegation participated in a series of activities rich in highland cultural characteristics. In Cau Village (Luc Hon Commune), they visited traditional houses and experienced cooking five-colored sticky rice and bamboo weaving firsthand.

At Khe Tien hamlet (Hoanh Mo commune), visitors join local residents on a trekking journey to explore the ancient tea forest, learn about medicinal plants, experience star anise picking, and learn how to make coóc mò cakes. They can also relax with a herbal foot soak and help locals prepare a traditional dinner. The trip also includes conquering the “Dinosaur Spine” ridge and exploring daily life at Binh Lieu Market.
This was the fifth field trip for Japanese specialists to communes in Quang Ninh Province, as part of the project titled “Enhancing the capacity of ethnic minorities to participate in community tourism development” in Binh Lieu, Hoanh Mo, and Luc Hon communes. The project is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and led by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The project aims at a core objective: to provide tourism skills training, enabling ethnic minority communities to proactively develop sustainable tourism models, thereby creating jobs, improving livelihoods, and preserving local cultural and natural values. In conclusion, the Japanese expert delegation will conduct an overall evaluation of the project and is expected to hold a working session with Quang Ninh Province in June 2026.
